Pregnancy-Safe Massage in Bangkok
A prenatal session is not a normal Thai massage with lighter pressure — it's a different protocol. Side-lying support pillows, deliberate avoidance of pressure points the body uses to induce labour, and gentle work focused on the lower back, hips, ankles and shoulders that carry the load. Available from week 14 onward.
Trimester guide
| Week 1–13 (T1) | We do not provide massage in the first trimester unless cleared by your OB. |
|---|---|
| Week 14–27 (T2) | The most comfortable phase. Side-lying or semi-reclined. 60–90 min. |
| Week 28–36 (T3) | Side-lying with full pillow support. Focus: lower back, hips, ankles. 60 min recommended. |
| Week 37+ (term) | Brief, very gentle session if you're comfortable. Bring written OB clearance. |
What helps in pregnancy
- Lower back & hips — carries the bump's weight. The biggest source of relief.
- Ankles & calves — gentle drainage strokes for swelling, never deep pressure.
- Shoulders & neck — sleep posture changes; this gets neglected and stiffens fast.
- Scalp — soothes nausea and headache, very calming.
- Aftercare — warm, unscented towel; herbal tea (no licorice or rosemary).
What we avoid
- Deep tissue, hot stone, herbal compress — too hot or too deep for prenatal.
- Strong essential oils — clary sage, rosemary, jasmine, juniper, basil.
- Lower-belly work and any pressure point traditionally used to induce labour.
- Prone (face-down) positioning past week 18.
Frequently asked questions
Is massage safe during pregnancy?
Yes from week 14 in a normal, low-risk pregnancy, with a therapist trained in prenatal positioning. Always confirm with your OB if you have placenta praevia, gestational hypertension, or any complication.
What position will I be in?
Side-lying with two large pillows: one between the knees, one supporting the bump. We can also do semi-reclined for shorter sessions.
Can my partner come too?
Yes — many couples come for a prenatal + relaxation session in the couple room. Your partner gets a normal session beside you.
Do you do post-natal massage?
Yes — from 6 weeks post-vaginal delivery or 8 weeks post-Caesarean, with OB clearance. Specifically tailored to abdominal recovery and breastfeeding posture.
What oils do you use?
Unscented sweet almond or fractionated coconut oil. We do not use essential-oil blends in prenatal unless you specifically request a pregnancy-safe one (lavender or chamomile only).
